DP2 CAS Activity – "Reader's Rights"

12 November 2024

On November 12, 2024, Knowledgeum Academy hosted an inspiring DP2 CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) activity titled "Reader's Rights." Drawing from author Neil Gaiman's quote, "A book is a dream that you hold in your hand," the event aimed to highlight that reading is not merely about finishing a book, but embracing the journey and experience it offers. This unique activity encouraged learners to celebrate the freedom and joy of reading, emphasising that it should be a fun, voluntary experience rather than an obligation.

DP2 learners actively participated by creating thought-provoking posters that showcased various reader’s rights, such as the right not to read, the right to skip parts, the right not to finish a book, and the right to reread, among others. These posters sparked meaningful discussions and allowed learners to express their individual perspectives on the reading experience, reinforcing the notion that each reader’s journey is personal and valuable.

Through the "Reader's Rights" activity, learners demonstrated a deep appreciation for literature and the importance of personal preference in reading. This event served as a powerful reminder of the transformative and empowering nature of reading, encouraging learners to embrace their rights as readers and to value the act of reading on their own terms.
