History & Inception

The International Baccalaureate was established in 1968, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. It was created by a group of innovative educators led by Marie-Thérèse Maurette, who wanted to create a challenging educational framework that encouraged critical thinking and fostered a global perspective. The idea was to offer a universal and transferable curriculum for students all over the world.

The first programme introduced by the International Baccalaureate was designed for secondary school students. This curriculum aimed to create a standardised, globally accepted qualification for university entry that was recognised internationally. Over the years, the IB expanded its reach and developed three additional programmes to cater to younger students, thus providing a continuum of education from early childhood through to pre-university.

IB Programmes

Primary Years Programme (PYP): Designed for students aged 3 to 12, the PYP focuses on the development of the whole child in the classroom and the world outside.
Middle Years Programme (MYP): For students aged 11 to 16, the MYP provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills through courses in eight subject groups.
Diploma Programme (DP): Aimed at students aged 16 to 19, the DP is a challenging two-year curriculum leading to final examinations and a qualification that is welcomed by leading universities around the world.
Career-related Programme (CP): For students aged 16 to 19, the CP incorporates the vision and educational principles of the IB into a unique programme specifically tailored for students who wish to engage in career-related education.

Curriculum & Subjects
