Guest Talk - Examination anxiety and Academic Stress

We, at Knowledgeum Academy, had the opportunity to host an enriching session as part of Community Connect, in collaboration with NIMHANS, Bangalore, focused on a topic that resonates deeply with students today—navigating exam stress and academic well-being.

Led by Dr. M. Thomas Kishore, Professor of Clinical Psychology at NIMHANS, the session provided students with practical, research-backed strategies to understand and manage stress during high-pressure academic periods. What made the session particularly impactful was its balance between scientific insight and real-life applicability.

Dr. Kishore unpacked the psychological and physiological dimensions of stress, helping students recognise that stress is not merely something to “avoid,” but something that can be understood and managed effectively. He emphasised the importance of self-awareness, routine, and healthy coping mechanisms—encouraging students to reflect on their own habits and responses to academic pressure.

The interactive nature of the session created a safe and engaging space for students to share their concerns, ask questions, and reflect on their experiences. From time management strategies to simple mindfulness techniques, students walked away with tools they could immediately apply in their daily lives.

What stood out most was the shift in perspective—moving from seeing stress as overwhelming to viewing it as something that can be navigated with the right strategies and support systems. Sessions like these highlight the importance of integrating well-being into the academic journey. Beyond content and assessments, equipping students with the skills to manage their mental health is essential for long-term success.
